Self-reliant:
There are many reasons why a person may feel unable to make it on his or her own. If a person has been suffering from an anxiety disorder such as a public phobia, OCD, Panic attacks or depression, then that person may find every day tasks a challenge. Because of that they just might have got used to not dealing with certain situations or simply leaving it for some one else to deal with. They may find that they don't have the energy or the know-how to confront others and may feel that they simply don't have what it takes to make it on their own.
If you feel insecure and inadequate, if you believe other people are more important than you, if you feel other people are guiding your life, than it is not possible to become self reliant. Therefore in order to become self-reliant you need to realise that you are and always have been in charge of your emotions. A great many people have insecurity underneath the strong outlook. You may have simply got used to listening to others for directions. Others may give you directions but only you can decide what direction to take. If we train ourselves to become good at doing things on our own, then we can become comfortable with ourselves and would feel free to enjoy more from life. As we become used to relying on ourselves our confidence in general would blossom.
